Why do cameras switch to black and white at night?

Colour night vision cameras will switch to black and white when used with the IR LED's at night. This is because black and white cameras produce a better image than colour cameras in low light levels.

Cameras that are able to switch modes are also called day/night cameras. A built-in light sensor determines when light  has changed enough for the camera to operate in night mode and prevents the switching of modes due to a cloud or other temporary weather conditons.

What are varifocal lens cameras?

Cameras with a varifocal lens means the focus is not fixed and can be manually or automatically adjusted.

What are dome cameras?

The dome camera is obviously named for its dome shape. Most people have seen these security cameras in businesses and stores. Because of its shape, its difficult to tell exactly where the camera is aiming unless you see it up close.

Dome cameras are mostly used inside buildings. You can mount them on the ceiling or on a wall.
